Super Mario Bros. (jap. スーパーマリオブラザーズ, Sūpā Mario Burazāzu) ist ein Jump-’n’-Run-Videospiel des japanischen Unternehmens Nintendo. In Japan erschien es am 13. September 1985 für die Heimkonsole Famicom. Bis 1987 kam das Spiel auch im Westen für das Famicom-Pendant Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) auf den Markt.

Der Spieler übernimmt die Rolle des Klempners Mario, der Hindernisse überwinden und Gegner bezwingen muss, um Prinzessin Toadstool aus den Fängen von König Koopa zu befreien. Dazu rennt und springt Mario durch die zweidimensional in Seitenansicht dargestellte Spielwelt. Im Gegensatz zu den Vorgängerspielen Mario Bros. (Arcade, 1983) und Donkey Kong (Arcade, 1981) findet das Spielgeschehen nicht in einem starren Bildschirmausschnitt statt. Stattdessen nutzt das Spiel Side-Scrolling.

Super Mario Bros. entstand unter der Federführung von Shigeru Miyamoto, dem Schöpfer von Donkey Kong, und Takashi Tezuka. Die Musik des Spiels komponierte Kōji Kondō. Das Spiel war eines der letzten Modulspiele für das Famicom. Es wurde innerhalb von acht Monaten parallel zu The Legend of Zelda (FDS, 1986) entwickelt.

Super Mario Bros. ist eines der einflussreichsten Videospiele aller Zeiten. Es hat das Jump-’n’-Run-Genre wesentlich geprägt und diente vielen Spieleentwicklern als Inspiration. Zur Zeit seiner Veröffentlichung wie auch größtenteils rückblickend hat die Fachpresse fast alle Elemente des Spiels positiv bewertet, insbesondere das Spielprinzip und die Gestaltung der Spielabschnitte. Mit etwa 40 Millionen abgesetzten Einheiten war Super Mario Bros. jahrzehntelang das meistverkaufte Videospiel. Seine Veröffentlichung ermöglichte es Nintendo, mit dem NES den nordamerikanischen Videospielmarkt nach einer Phase der wirtschaftlichen Stagnation zu revitalisieren. Nintendo hat das Spiel, das die erfolgreiche Super-Mario-Reihe begründete, mehrmals für andere Konsolen umgesetzt, neuaufgelegt oder wiederveröffentlicht.
